A couple of Saturdays ago, I had the pleasure to spend my evening at the enchanting castle of Vaux le Vicomte. That same chateau which served as the muse and inspiration behind the renowned Château de Versailles.
Every Saturday, from May 4 to October 5, 2019, Vaux le Vicomte opens its doors and garden till dark. But that’s not all, because candles will light your visit and surround the estate from west to east. It is all part of what is known as the Candlelit Evenings.
I spent the first part of the night going through the oh-so-beauitful rooms with an immersive audio guide, simply the most enjoyable way to learn the history. When the clock ticked 11 p.m. I felt like it was New Year's Eve (except that we were in August), as fireworks were launched in every direction and in all colors.
